2020 was a difficult year, with lives being impacted in ways like never before. It has also been a tremendous opportunity for growth, as we continually overcome new challenges. Through it all, we have witnessed extraordinary resilience and support, with individuals and communities rallying around each other.

Mental health is an area that has been, and will continue to be, significantly impacted. Rates of mental health concerns and substance abuse are on the rise throughout the country. Because of this, it is more important than ever that we continue increasing knowledge and awareness surrounding
mental health, and how we can maintain wellness in ourselves and loved ones.

Following two epic events in 2019 and 2020, Breaking Barriers will move to a virtual format. On May 7, 2021, individuals across the province, country, and world to join together.

The virtual conference platform will consist of an exceptional level of engagement; allowing individuals to view the speakers, participate in live Q&A sessions, and interact directly with other attendees in real-time. While we wish we could be together face-to-face, the half-day virtual conference provides a platform to continue the conversation on mental health while taking proper precautions amidst the pandemic.

The theme of Breaking Barriers 2021 is centered around hope. The event will identify “what keeps you up at night,” as well as “what gets you out of bed in the morning.” We recognize the challenges isolation, loneliness, and fatigue can have on one’s mental wellbeing, and understand the positive impact connection, education, and vulnerability provides. Our goal is to continue to change the conversations on mental health among families, friends, neighbours, and strangers, empowering individuals to better understand their own mental health and support others.
